Effects of this medicine

This medicine inhibits HMG-CoA reductase to inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver, and also inhibits absorption of cholesterol and vegetal sterol in the small intestine. It consequently lowers cholesterol levels in the blood.

It is usually used to treat hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia.
