Effects of this medicine

This medicine delays glucose absorption from the small intestine by inhibiting alpha-amylase in saliva/pancreatic juice and alpha-glucosidase in the intestinal tract, thereby suppressing rapid increases in blood glucose levels after meals.

It is usually used to improve postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus.
