Effects of this medicine

This medicine stimulates insulin secretion, and by blocking the enzyme α-glucosidase that degrades carbohydrates to glucose, it delays glucose absorption from the small intestine which enables to control the elevation of blood-glucose level after meal (postprandial hyperglycemia) and improves glycemic control.

It is usually used to treat type 2 diabetes.
