This activated vitamin D3 increases serum calcium level by enhancing digestive absorption of calcium, improves bone metabolic turnover, and prompts bone formation. It is usually used to treat osteoporosis and to improve vitamin D metabolism abnormality-associated symptoms caused by chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, or rickets/osteomalacia.
