Effects of this medicine

This medicine increases dopamine by suppressing the action of levodopa degrading enzyme (COMT) and supplying more levodopa to brain. As a result, it improves circadian change (wearing-off phenomenon) by enhancing the levodopa effect.

It is usually used to improve circadian change of the symptoms (wearing-off phenomenon) in patient with Parkinson's disease in combination with levodopa/carbidopa or levodopa/benserazide hydrochloride.
