Effects of this medicine

This medicine binds to the proton pump (H+, K+-ATPase) in the gastric mucosa which is involved in gastric acid secretion and inactivates the proton pump. It consequently suppresses gastric acid secretion.

It is usually used in the treatment of gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, nonerosive gastro-esophageal reflux disease and suppression of recurrence of gastric/duodenal ulcer associated with low-dose aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug medication.
