Effects of this medicine

This medicine activates hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) pathways by inhibiting HIF prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH), and boosts the substance (erythropoietin) which stimulates the cells producing red blood cells to increase the number of red blood cells. It consequently improves anemia.

It is usually used to treat renal anemia.
