This medicine is activated vitamin D3 that improves bone metabolic turnover and helps bone formation by enhancing calcium absorption and increasing serum calcium level.

It is usually used to treat osteoporosis and to improve the symptoms associated with abnormal vitamin D metabolism in patients with chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism and rickets/osteomalacia.
