Effects of this medicine

This medicine directly and indirectly suppresses synthesis and secretion of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) in the parathyroid cells and lowers serum PTH concentrations.

It is usually used in the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients undergoing maintenance dialysis.
